Sometimes things get a little fuzzy during a Sunday afternoon at the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you may have missed while you were drinking.
The Padres (35-47) scored fewer runs than the New York Yankees (40-41) yesterday afternoon, 6-3. The Padres were denied yet again for their first sweep of 2016 remaining 1-for-∞ on Sundays.
Andrew Cashner (3-6, 4.42) came off the disabled list and threw ninety pitches in six innings. Cashner allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out six. Didi Gregorius reached on an error by Alexei Ramirez in the second inning. and eventually came around to score on Ronald Torreyes’ double play ground ball. Gregorius hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. Mark Teixeira hit two home runs — the 400th and 401st of his Major League career — a solo one in the eighth and a two-run one with Brett Gardner on base in the ninth. Gardner knocked in Jacoby Ellsbury on his ninth inning single.
Chad Green (1-1, 4.09) earned his first win, surrendering one run in six innings on three hits and no walks with eight strikeouts. Yangervis Solarte went 4-for-4, coming a triple short of the cycle, and put the Padres on the scoreboard with his solo home run in the second inning. Solarte then scored in the ninth inning on Alex Dickerson‘s two-run home run.
The Friars travel to Phoenix to face the Arizona Diamondbacks (37-47) for three games starting tonight at 6:10pm PDT. Luis Perdomo (2-3, 8.49) gets the start in the first game against Archie Bradley (3-3, 4.50).

Could be a short outing for Cash, unless his athleticism carries him through. Because, you know, he is an athlete.#padres

Cashner's slider is flat. This should be fun.

I think Cashner owes Norris a beer for that last k looking.

I've only covered MLB for parts of two seasons, but A-Rod easily gets booed more than any player I've watched.
— Carlos Collazo (@CarlosACollazo) July 3, 2016
ARod getting booed like he ran over a litter of puppies at a Petco. Woman near me: "Why is everybody here so mad at him? What he do to us?"

I have my issues with Cashner, but Quackenbush is the worst of the beard offenders.
